There’s an interesting story that goes with this one…
So, you’ve stumbled upon the first piece I ever wrote! After a particularly bad concert with horrendous organisation and not enough rehearsal time, I did that thing young composers do where they go home and cry because they think it’s because their music is crap that it all sounded bad (it wasn’t.) A few weeks went past and suddenly I got a message from mother and son – Laura Skuce and Tim Duerden – who had been in the choir at that dreaded concert. They thought the piece was so wonderful and felt so bad for me that they had recorded a mock-up of the piece for me with just the two of them. Laura is sadly no longer with us but in the short time that I knew her, she was one of the kindest souls I have ever encountered. Here’s the recording.
